WAS BUHARI WRONG TO OFFER A HANDSHAKE INSTEAD OF A SALUTE?

Many people are worried that something might be wrong somewhere: The president of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari seems to be getting everything wrong of late. Could this be one of them?  He offered a hand shake instead of a salute to the new acting IG of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The Faux pass reached the climax last week in Delta State at  APC rally  where the president referred to ‘Great Ogboru’ as “Our Presidential Candidate”, when his attention was drawn to the faux pass, he corrected himself quickly by referring to Ogboru as ” Our Senatorial Candidate “, he was corrected once more before he finally got it right. Could this mean that the President does not even know that he is actually the presidential candidate of APC?

The President’s appearance on  ‘The Candidates’, a town hall event that is intended to bring the top candidates in the 2019 predidentail election closer to the voters.

The programme, organised by Daria Media and the Nigeria Television Authority  (NTA) with support from MacArthur Foundation saw Buhari performed abysmally.

During the interview, Buhari failed to provide straightforward answers to some of the questions directed at him, perhaps, he genuinely forgot or he just chose to ignore.

What is happening?

The President wasn’t wrong to offer a handshake instead of a salute to the new IGP. He is a retired General and was in mufti so he couldn’t respond with a salute since he had no cap nor beret with a military insignia on. When a military officer is in mufti or without a cap, he can’t salute except if doing ‘eye service’. He can either comes to ‘attention’ or ‘chest up’.
