Perhaps, The Abuja Police Command Underestimated Emeka Ugwuonye
We can never be discouraged, no matter the outcome. How could you arrest a human rights lawyer and take him to a place like Abattoir? You don’t take a Journalist or a social activist to such a place. If you really want to continue in your business, you don’t do things like that because definitely, you will be exposed.
Late Gen Sani Abacha tried similar thing but he was not alive to see the outcome but he felt the heat while he was here. He arrested an influential journalist – Senator Chris Anyanwu and late civil rights activist – Beko Ransome Kuti and many others.
Senator Chris Anyanwu’s book ” The Days Of Terror ” became a National bestseller immediately after the death of Abacha. It was a Journalist’s Eye – witness account of Nigeria in the hands of it’s worst tyrant.
During her more than three years of incarceration in Nigeria, Journalist Chris Anyanwu managed to document her ordeals by smuggling notes and letters out of prison. That became the bases of the book – The Days Of Terror.
Stories were told of Beko Ransome Kuti swallowing his notes when Prison officials storm his cell to search him. That notes were vomited immediately after his release from prison and it formed part of his own prison memoir.
Now they are persecuting Emeka Ugwuonye for exposing the rot in Abattoir. They expected him to keep quiet after seeing that level of flagrant right abuse in abattoir. No matter the outcome, Ugwuonye is clear on what he wants. “Let the right things be done”. He who laughs last, laughs the best.
