THE ATTACK ON EMEKA UGWUONYE, AN INSTANCE OF IGNORANCE BECOMING BOLD

One lady here yesterday, commenting on my wall, tried to argue that Emeka Ugwuonye must be guilty of murdering Chacha. Her reasoning, which was filled with well entrenched hatred, was simply that Emeka Ugwuonye’s reconstruction of the crime incident in 2016 turned out to be correct. And she asked: “is Emeka clairvoyant?”.

She showed the same daftness and ignorance the Abuja police command has shown. The only difference is that while the police are actually pretending to be ignorant, she is genuinely ignorant.

There are two things to know:  first, Emeka merely provided a reconstruction of what he believed must have happened. Anybody with average knowledge of crime investigation techniques will be familiar with what is called incident reconstruction. That is what makes it possible for a traffic engineer to come to a scene of accident and reconstruct the accident.  Such engineer will look at the skid marks, the weather condition, the nature of injury, the angle of impact, the traffic condition, etc. Based on these pieces of data, the engineer can provide a fairly accurate explanation of the missing information such as the speed of the vehicles, the direction of the vehicles, whether the passengers were wearing seatbelt or not and which driver was at fault.

A stupid or ignorant person will wonder if the engineer was clayvoyant.

Emeka is a Harvard trained lawyer with many years of experience in criminal trials and crime investigations. Chacha’s case provided sufficient data that made it possible for him to easily reconstruct what would have happened. He published his analysis, methods and procedure.

Another factor to consider is that the basis upon which the police now believe Emeka’s reconstruction is that Jekwu’s coerced confession tended to correspond to Emeka’s reconstructed theories of event. But thus should not be a surprise. You must know that Jekwu like most people read Emeka’s theories of fact when he published them. So, when forced to confess, Jekwu simply repeated what Emeka wrote in order to stop the torture he was going through.

The critical test would have been if Jekwu had been able to add any fact to Emeka’s theories. Example, where was the head of Chacha? The killer of Chacha would know. Jekwu did not know and could not provide the information.

One final point, and a warning, is that those who lie against Emeka just because they can write on Facebook could face serious lawsuits. If you claim that Emeka helped Jekwu to escape, be prepared to prove how he did it. You can’t just make such assertions without evidence. Emeka refused to sue some of these knuckleheads  because he wanted to exhaust his fight with the police first. That could happen soon.

Nigerian police are inept and mischievous. And some hate mongers hide behind the police corruption to spew out utter ignorance
