FIGHTING AGAINST ABUSE OF RIGHTS

There remains mounting evidence of systemic abuse of rights of the people by the police and other law enforcement agencies, particularly in Nigeria.

These are not isolated cases of abuse, but rather a widespread systemic behavior. This manifests in simple cases of false arrests, unlawful detentions, to serious case of torture and extra-judicial killings.

DPA protects its members against these abuses. Our intervention in situations of abuse of rights cases takes various forms depending on particular circumstances of abuse. We intervene to secure the release of those arrested through the enforcement of their rights in courts, filing administrative petitions, advocacy activities, criminal defense for the victims of such abuse.

In cases of rights abuses that do not involve the activities of law enforcement agencies, DPA vigorously defend and protect the rights of our members.

Over the years, we have developed procedures for effective and efficient interventions. For this purpose, DPA established strategic contacts with select lawyers in various cities and chapters all over the country, and beyond.
